The reason for the occasion was not particularly pleasant, but the event and the reception were very much so. Around 500 fans bid farewell to the Bayern basketball team and head coach Andrea Trinchieri at the end of the season at the Audi Dome and with Paulaner drinks and Käfer food a very positive mood prevailed despite the early exit in the playoff semifinals.
Managing director Marko Pesic reported a "record year at the Audi Dome, we have never been able to welcome so many fans here, even though the season has now ended like this." He also said that the team "showed character and never gave up, not only in the last game in Ulm. And when we were complete, in the cup in Oldenburg, we showed our true colors."
Pesic thanks Trinchieri
Pesic continued to great applause: "We will not let this sit and will work hard on the squad in the summer so that it will look very different next year at this point, with two titles and an even better atmosphere."
Coach Trinchieri, who is leaving Munich after three years, also received special applause. "We thank you for your heart and your enthusiasm," Pesic shouted to the Italian, "you unfortunately had the bad luck to have to cope with the many injuries in the last two years. Nevertheless, they were three very intense, instructive and, I think, also successful years. You will always be a big part of this club."
August will bring a fresh start
Captain Andreas Obst also thanked "the fans, the coaching staff for the whole season and this great office that we have here in the back". With the other national players, he will join the national team at the end of July, which is preparing for the World Cup (25.8. - 10.9.). Training for the FCBB Team 23/24 will start about a month later.
