There was positive news from the Bayern medical section on Tuesday, as both Luca Toni (knee sprain) and Jose Ernesto Sosa (ankle ligaments) were reported as making good progress towards resuming the full squad training programme.
Sosa put in two training sessions on Tuesday, combining jogging with exercises designed to stabilise the injured ankle. With the rest of the squad away in Stuttgart on Wednesday for the League Cup semi-final, the 22-year-old Argentine will again work out twice at the Säbener Strasse.
Toni back soon
Luca Toni meanwhile is only a short time away from returning to the practice ground. The Italian World Cup winner reported for a thorough medical on Tuesday. If the procedure results in the all-clear, the striker will be sent jogging on Wednesday. Head coach Ottmar Hitzfeld will be forced to wait a little longer on the return to full fitness of Lukas Podolski, Willy Sagnol (both rehab after knee surgery) and summer signing Jan Schlaudraff (rehab after surgery to repair a slipped disc.)
Valerien Ismael, who commenced a restricted version of the first team schedule after the training camp in Donaueschingen, has not set a target for a return to the squad programme. “I'm probably about 10 percent short of full fitness. I have an X-ray next Tuesday, hopefully the last one. I'm hoping for a green light,” the affable defender told fcbayern.de in a recent interview.
