Arminia v Bayern

Reaction to Bayern’s victory in Bielefeld

Bayern set off back to Munich after Sunday’s trip to Arminia Bielefeld delighted with the win that returns the Bavarians to the top of the Bundesliga. “The three points were very important,” match-winning goalscorer Franck Ribéry commented. Coach Ottmar Hitzfeld praised his team: “We needed time to settle because we were a bit tired, but we had fewer and fewer problems the longer the game went on.“

Reaction to Arminia Bielefeld v Bayern:

Ottmar Hitzfeld: “It was a tough match. We struggled at the start and took a long time about getting stuck in. We finally turned up after 20 minutes, we tackled more aggressively, we were better organised and Bielefeld hardly had any more chances. We had no real trouble once we’d taken the lead, although we still gave the ball away too often and we didn’t play well on the break. We should have added a second at some point. Bielefeld were well aware they could have caused an upset by making it a fight. They were fresher than we were. We needed time to settle because we were a bit tired, but we had fewer and fewer problems the longer the game went on.“

Franck Ribéry: “I’m delighted at the result. The three points were very important, but it was never easy. Bielefeld are a very good team.“

Ernst Middendorp (Arminia coach): “It was always closely-fought, and always tense. Everything went well from our point of view, I’m definitely not disappointed. We need to keep our spirits up, then we’ll collect the points we need in our next few games.“
