Kahn and Lahm fit to resume squad programme

Oliver Kahn and Philipp Lahm watched Bayern effectively wrap up the league title against VfB Stuttgart from the Allianz Arena stands, but both returned to the practice ground on Monday. As a result, and with three days to go until the UEFA Cup semi-final return away to St. Petersburg, Ottmar Hitzfeld appears likely to name a full-strength line-up for the do-or-die clash.

”I’m assuming I’ll be playing against St. Petersburg. Experience says it’ll be OK,” Kahn explained on Sunday. The Bayern captain trapped a nerve in the first match and was forced to leave the field on 67 minutes.

Hitzfeld expects fit Lahm

The keeper could have faced Stuttgart “in certain circumstances”, Kahn reported, “but I hadn’t trained and I didn’t know if it would react. Thinking ahead to St. Petersburg, it would have been stupid to exacerbate the situation.”

Philipp Lahm, ruled out on Sunday with a muscle strain, is set to return against the Russians. “I’m expecting him to be fit for Thursday,” Hitzfeld reported. Lucio was only rested against VfB on Sunday and will also feature at the Petrovsky stadium.

Demichelis convinced

In order to retain a chance of progressing to the final against the Russian champions, Bayern must win by any margin, or draw while scoring at least once. The situation was identical ahead of the quarter-final return against Getafe.

”I’m convinced we can do it. We couldn’t be killed off in Getafe – so what can happen to us now?” declared Martin Demichelis after Monday training. “We’re going to St. Petersburg full of confidence,” Hitzfeld said.
