Jürgen Klinsmann found himself unexpectedly without two of the players he had pencilled in for starts in Saturday's friendly with Köln, after both Tim Borowski and Luca Toni withdrew from the trip to the promoted Rhineland club.
Borowski broke off Friday afternoon's training session after twisting a knee in a practice match. The former Bremen man reported to the medical unit, where he was diagnosed with nothing more serious than a sprain, forcing him to the sidelines for no more than a couple of days.
Recuperation for both
Luca Toni has also been told to restrict his training activity for a few days. The Italian superstar came away from the Friday session with a tight calf muscle and was withdrawn from the squad for Köln as a precaution.
No decision has been taken as to whether the pair will be part of the travelling party which sets off on Tuesday for a friendly in Tokyo against partner club Urawa Red Diamonds. The players reported to the Säbener Strasse at 9 am on Saturday morning for a initial round of recuperation and recovery exercises.
