With his famous motto, ‘keep going, we must keep going’, Oliver Kahn drove himself and his team-mates to new performance highs in the course of some two decades as a professional footballer. The three-time World Goalkeeper of the Year has no intention of abandoning that philosophy now he has finally hung up his gloves. “There’ll be no retirement for me,” he declared, “I have plenty of projects, which I’ll be tackling as of September.”
In a highly emotional scene, the 38-year-old bowed out as a player after 75 minutes of his testimonial match at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday evening. “It’s not the start of a new life, it’s the start of a new chapter in my life,” he explained. Football will continue to play a major role in the former keeper’s plans.
