Reaction to Bayern v Arminia Bielefeld

Hoeneß: ‘That was terrific attacking football’

The Allianz Arena hosted another cracking afternoon of football on Saturday as Bayern put up a 90-minute barrage on the Arminia Bielefeld goal, earning a fully deserved 3-1 victory to go third in the Bundesliga table. General manager Uli Hoeneß enjoyed watching the men in red: “We went for broke in the second half and the team poured forward in wave after wave, it was terrific attacking football.“

Reaction to Bayern v Arminia Bielefeld:

Uli Hoeneß: “It was hard work in the first half, largely because we again gifted our opponents a goal. We went for broke in the second half and the team poured forward in wave after wave, it was terrific attacking football against a Bielefeld team who were only here to defend. We must have had ten clear-cut chances. We totally deserved to win, and it could have finished 5-1 or 6-1.“

Jürgen Klinsmann: “We wanted to see how it worked with a 4-2-3-1 formation. It’s an interesting option. It was exactly the game we expected with Bielefeld setting out their stall, so we had to be patient. We took the lead, but conceded a silly penalty. Then we battered away in the second half and made it 2-1. We won the corner count 20-0, which shows you how much pressure we applied. We’re happy with the three points, and that we’ve continued our winning run. Podolski showed exactly the reaction a coach wants to see, although the whole team was really determined.“
