Bayern continued their drive towards top spot in the Bundesliga with a thoroughly professional 2-0 win over Leverkusen, extending their unbeaten run to 13 matches and leapfrogging the Rhineland outfit to go second in the standings. "It was a full deserved victory,“ beaming general manager Uli Hoeneß commented, while coach Jürgen Klinsmann turned his gaze to next Friday's top-of-the-table clash with leaders Hoffenheim: "We're really looking forward to them coming to Munich.".
Reaction to Bayer Leverkusen v Bayern:
Uli Hoeneß: "It was evenly-matched in the first half, but we totally dominated the game after half-time. Leverkusen had no chances whatsoever. All in all, it was a fully deserved victory here today. Our determination and individual brilliance made the difference. In Franck we have the class of player the others don't have. Now we want to beat Hoffenheim. I'm sure it'll be a cracking match, and it'll tell us who has the best team at the moment.“
Franz Beckenbauer: "Leverkusen dominated the first half and were the better team. They had a couple of chances and could have taken the lead. I'm not saying Bayern took it easy in the first half, but they were very passive and didn't seize the initiative. They were much better after half-time, they played Leverkusen off the park, and deserved to win on the basis of the improvement in the second half.“
Jürgen Klinsmann: "We simply have extra class at the moment. There's so much good football in the team. The lads are enjoying themselves and they're fit, because we've worked really hard for four months. It's taken us a while to get up to speed, but the team's enjoying the fruits of their labours now. As we saw in the second half, they're capable of totally dominating a match now. Leverkusen were very strong in the first 20 minutes and we had a few problems. We controlled the play in the second half, and the goals were just a matter of time. We have plenty of respect for Hoffenheim and we're happy to compliment them, but our aim is to go top at some point soon. We've steadily worked our way towards that, and we're really looking forward to them coming to Munich. It's a meeting between two top-class teams.“
Bruna Labbadia (Leverkusen coach): "We played the first 25 minutes exactly as we wanted to. We seized the initiative, but then one or two of my players engaged reverse gear. We allowed ourselves to be pressed back and stopped getting forward as much. Bayern's victory was deserved.“
Simon Rolfes (Leverkusen captain): "We weren't particularly good going forward and gave away possession too easily. We were nearly caught on the break a couple of times in the first half. We didn't show up for the second period and they camped out in our half. Bayern deserved to win. They were more ruthless, and increasingly gained control as the game went on.“
