Bayern are set to field a full-strength line-up in Friday’s Bundesliga showdown with shock league leaders 1899 Hoffenheim (Highlights with exclusive English commentary from 11 pm CET on FCB.tv). Captain Mark van Bommel and central defender Martin Demichelis, ruled out of last Saturday’s 2-0 victory away to Bayer Leverkusen with illness and injury respectively, resumed the team training programme on Tuesday and have been declared fit to play against the table-toppers.
By contrast, Tim Borowski was forced to sit out Tuesday’s session after taking a knock against Leverkusen, although the midfielder is set to rejoin the squad for training on Wednesday and is not rated doubtful for Friday. Coach Jürgen Klinsmann thus picks from a full range of options, with the exception of long-term absentees Willy Sagnol (Achilles) and Lukas Podolski (back).
Champions aim to send out a signal
With two games remaining before the midpoint of the league programme and the traditional winter break, Hoffenheim lead the champions at the top of the standings by three points. “We intend to demonstrate who’s meant to be top – and that’s Bayern Munich,” declared Germany star Philipp Lahm three days prior to the face-off at the Allianz Arena. “Now’s the time to send out a signal,” a determined and aggressive Lahm continued.
