Bayern handed tough trip to Bayer Leverkusen

DFB Cup holders Bayern have been handed a tough tie away to Bundesliga title contenders Bayer Leverkusen in the quarter-finals of this season’s competition.

The draw for the last eight, broadcast live on Sunday evening national TV, was made by Germany women’s goalkeeper Nadine Angerer and national goalkeeping coach Andreas Köpke.

With Leverkusen’s BayArena stadium currently undergoing extensive renovation work, the match will take place at the 51,000 capacity LTU Arena in Düsseldorf.

The quarter-final ties will be played on 3 and 4 March. The winners earn a place in the semi-finals, scheduled for 21 and 22 April, and also receive prize money in excess of €1.5 million. The DFB Cup final takes place at the Berlin Olympic stadium on 30 May.

The meeting with Leverkusen represents an early reunion for Jürgen Klinsmann and his team with Toni Kroos, after the Germany U-21 international sealed an 18-month loan switch from Munich to the Rhineland club on Saturday. Kroos was a member of the Bayern squad which travelled to Leverkusen for a Bundesliga fixture in late-November and won 2-0.
