Reaction to Hertha Berlin v Bayern

Coach: ‘We lacked the necessary spark’

Off-colour Bayern missed an inviting chance to top the Bundesliga for the first time this season with an avoidable 2-1 defeat to Hertha BSC, a result which sent the men from Berlin to the head of the standings instead. Despite the setback, FCB general manager Uli Hoeneß remained unruffled. “I don’t think we’re in a fundamentally worse position, because none of our rivals have given us genuine cause for concern.“

Reaction to Hertha Berlin v Bayern:

Uli Hoeneß: “We created plenty of chances, especially in the second half, but we didn’t make the most of them. I don’t think we’re in a fundamentally worse position, because none of our rivals have given us genuine cause for concern. I’m not worried for the time being.“

Jürgen Klinsmann: “We’re very disappointed, and angry about missing out on first place. The lads are sitting in the dressing room and saying to themselves: that’s unbelievable. But that’s football. I still think we’ll take first place sooner or later. We’ll sit down now and analyse the match. I think the team recognises we lacked the necessary spark to score the decisive goal ourselves and avoid inviting our opponents to hit us on the break.“
