Former FCB youth makes loan move permanent

Bayern and Borussia Dortmund agreed a deal on Friday taking 20-year-old defender Mats Hummels to the Ruhr Valley club on a permanent basis. Hummels is on loan from FCB to Borussia until 30 June 2009, and will now officially join Jürgen Klopp’s squad on 1 July 2009.

The former Bayern youth, who switches for an undisclosed fee, is set to ink a four-year deal with BVB. The official transfer agreement between Bayern and Borussia Dortmund will be formally signed this Sunday prior to the teams’ Bundesliga meeting in Munich.

“We were fundamentally very satisfied with Mats Hummels’ sporting development,” FC Bayern Munich AG chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, remarked, “but we have four first-class international centre-halves in Lucio, Demichelis, van Buyten and Breno, and it would have been exceptionally hard for Mats to win a regular place in the Bayern team. That’s why we’ve met the player’s specific request to be allowed to remain with Borussia Dortmund.”
