Norway nail Germany, Franck falls to Micho

The eleven Bayern stars who represented their countries in midweek will return to Munich bearing a mixed bag of results from the first round of international matches this year. Germany fell to an embarrassing defeat on home soil, but the outcome was a lot more positive for a clutch of Munich central defenders: one fired a brace, one turned in a man of the match display, and the third helped prevent a new world record.

Germany trio Philipp Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Miroslav Klose suffered a miserable evening at the LTU Arena in Düsseldorf as the Euro 2008 runners-up fell 1-0 to Norway, the Scandinavians’ first win over the Germans since 1936.

Van Buyten’s double strike

The increasingly restless 45,000 crowd saw Christian Grindheim net a 63rd-minute winner for the defensively-minded visitors. Germany struggled to create chances throughout the game, the otherwise productive Philipp Lahm missing arguably the best after half an hour. The Norwegians, currently in their close season and short of match practice, posed a constant threat on the break and ultimately chalked up a deserved victory.
