Resolute champions fix sights on first place

Medics define allergies as the body’s defensive reaction to external influences which are fundamentally harmless. From a doctor’s point of view, Bayern fans need not be concerned: the German champions have not suddenly become allergic to first place in the Bundesliga. They have simply and puzzlingly yet to claim it as their own so far this term.

On Matchdays four, 15, 16 and 17 respectively, the nation’s most successful club have been poised to take over pole position in the table, only for results to fall unkindly. FCB could well launch a fifth effort this weekend, as leaders Hoffenheim are just a point clear and entertain fifth-placed Leverkusen on Friday evening. Should TSG fail to win, Bayern can go top after Saturday’s clash in Berlin.

Making up ground

“We’re all aware of the standings,” Michael Rensing assured The players required no further motivation, the keeper continued. “We want to go top as soon as possible, as we’re tired of playing catch-up. We want the others looking at us.”
