Despite the absence of four key players with injury, resurgent Bayern ran up a fully deserved 5-1 win at home to Hannover 96 in the Bundesliga on Saturday, a result which sent the men in red up to joint second in the standings. Satisfied coach Jürgen Klinsmann urged his players to seize the initiative from now on: “There are eleven games to go, and I reckon we have every chance of winning the league.“
Reaction to Bayern v Hannover:
Jürgen Klinsmann: “The mood here couldn’t be better. We knew we needed a result today, and I think we’ve gone out and done just what we had to do. We kept it simple, and we were patient against a very defensive Hannover side. The team refused to be thrown out of its stride by conceding the goal, kept battering away, and scored one goal after another. I’m really pleased for Lukas [Podolski]. He’s scored, he’s won free-kicks, and been involved in plenty of passing moves. He and Miroslav Klose have worked really hard the whole season, and both scored today. Obviously, that’s the best medicine for a striker. Our goal is to win the league, and we won’t let up now. Hertha have pulled away at the top, and we need to reel them in. We’ll redouble our efforts in that respect. There are eleven games to go, and I reckon we have every chance of winning the league."
