On a day of positive news from the Bayern medical unit, Frank Ribéry completed the full squad training programme for the first time in two weeks, and could now feature in Saturday’s home Bundesliga meeting with Karlsruher SC. “We’re assuming Franck will be fit to play,” general manager Uli Hoeneß told Bavarian TV on Monday evening. Ribéry sustained a painful shin injury in the Cup defeat to Leverkusen on 4 March and has not featured competitively since then.
Toni jogging again
Tuesday also brought good news of Luca Toni. The Italian, sidelined for the last four weeks with a nagging Achilles tendon injury, managed a full session of jogging and running on Tuesday. Supervised by fitness coach Thomas Wilhelmi, the 31-year-old completed a long series of laps around the Säbener Straße practice facility.
Last season’s leading scorer in the Bundesliga will now increase the training burden gradually on a day-to-day basis. The striker spent Tuesday afternoon working out in the weights room. Toni is expected to be fit enough for the squad programme in a matter of days.
