Attacking trio Luca Toni, Franck Ribéry and Tim Borowski have all been ruled out of Bayern’s next Bundesliga and Champions League fixtures. The three will miss Saturday’s home meeting with Hannover 96 in the German top flight, and also Tuesday’s Champions League first knockout round return at home to Sporting Lisbon. Of the three, midfield star Ribéry is the player most likely to have recovered in time for the following weekend’s Bundesliga trip to VfL Bochum.

“We have to remain patient with Luca, perhaps for a longer period,” coach Jürgen Klinsmann announced on Friday ahead of the final pre-match workout. Toni has been plagued by an Achilles tendon injury for a while, a condition which ruled him out of Bayern’s games away to Bremen and Leverkusen. “We’re giving him a ten-day break, and we hope he’ll have shaken off the injury after that,” Klinsmann continued.
