Injury-hit Bayern face fight in Bielefeld

Bielefeld’s venerable Alm stadium has frequently hosted remarkable matches between home heroes Arminia and Bayern. On Matchday 21 in 2004-5, Arminia won 3-1 in a snowscape, as the undersoil heating failed to cope with a freak blizzard shortly before kick-off. Back in 1997-8, the sides drew 4-4 on Matchday 31 – and Bayern ultimately fell two points short of defending their league title.

Munich travel to East Westphalia on Saturday (Live in English from 3.15 pm on Web Radio) duly forewarned, but still confident of collecting three vital points. Following the midweek Champions League exit, the going-in position was crystal clear, noted coach Jürgen Klinsmann: “All that counts now is the Bundesliga and the championship shield. We’ll mobilise everything we’ve got in pursuit of that.”
