Two days ahead of the Champions League quarter-final first leg away to Barcelona, there was good news and bad news from the Bayern camp. The bad news is that centre-back Lucio has been ruled out of the match with a groin strain, and is also rated doubtful for Saturday’s Bundesliga meeting at home to Eintracht Frankfurt. The good news is that Daniel van Buyten has returned to contention for the midweek fixture.
The Belgian, who has been on compassionate leave in his home country for family reasons for the last two weeks, returned to the Säbener Strasse on Monday and completed the squad training session. “I’m thrilled to have Daniel back with us,” commented Jürgen Klinsmann, revealing he had spoken to the player every day on the phone. “We hope he’ll now come with us to Barcelona.”
