Reaction to Hoffenheim v Bayern

‘A great advertisement for football’

On the penultimate day of the Bundesliga season, Bayern played creditably but came up short of what would have been a merited victory in Hoffenheim, although both teams contributed quality moments to an enthralling 2-2 draw at the Rhein-Neckar Arena. “The match was a great advertisement for football,“ commented Jupp Heynckes. “We can’t criticise the team today,“ added Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. Ahead of the coming Saturday’s final fixture at home to Stuttgart, the FCB chairman named securing second place in the standings as the overriding priority. “It’s extremely important we qualify for the Champions League, both in terms of our finances and our image.“

Reaction to Hoffenheim v Bayern:

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: “We’ve seen a very good game. Unfortunately, it wasn’t quite enough to win, but I don’t think we can criticise the team today. The situation is similar to the year 2000, but I don’t believe Wolfsburg will throw it away now. It’s extremely important we qualify for the Champions League, both in terms of our finances and our image. We must hold onto second place.“

Uli Hoeneß: “I think we’ve watched an outstanding game. However, yet again we’ve been guilty of failing to take our clear-cut chances. It was a very demanding match and we were running on empty after a certain point, although we still had a chance right at the end. It was a great game of football from both sides.“
