Chairman: Anything could happen in title thriller

With the Bundesliga run-in promising one of the tensest finishes ever, Bayern returned to the title race with a bang thanks to Saturday’s 3-1 win away to Energie Cottbus. The champions are now level on points with leaders VfL Wolfsburg, and trail the Wolves by the slender margin of just two goals. With three matches remaining, the top four are covered by a mere two points.

“Looking at the situation in the table, today’s victory was unbelievably important,” Bayern caretaker boss Jupp Heynckes declared after guiding his men to three points on the occasion of his 64th birthday. “It’s really tight at the top, four or even five teams could still win the league,” the birthday boy said after what was his 150th game in charge of the Munich giants.
