Bayern ran up a deserved 3-1 win over Energie Cottbus on Bundesliga Matchday 31, drawing level on points with Wolfsburg after the leaders lost in Stuttgart. The champions dominated proceedings from the off away to Energie, refusing to be disheartened when the home side equalised on the stroke of half-time. “Our approach was fantastic in the second half,“ a satisfied Uli Hoeneß said.
Reaction to Energie Cottbus v Bayern:
Uli Hoeneß: “We can be very pleased with today. We only went to sleep once, when they scored just before half-time. The coach warned the players to be wary of long throws, yet still it happened. But our approach was fantastic in the second half, against a team with their backs to the wall who battled away creditably, so that was certainly excellent. It would have been good if we’d have scored another though, because of the goal difference situation.“
Jupp Heynckes: “We need to think about Leverkusen now and not about anything else. We played well, but in my opinion, if we’d been on really top form, we’d have won 6-1. We should have scored more goals. It’s very important not just to play convincingly, but also to put away the chances we create, and there were plenty."
