Caretaker boss Jupp Heynckes oversaw Bayern’s third win in three matches since taking the reins, as the champions eased past Bayer Leverkusen to remain level on points with Bundesliga leaders Wolfsburg. Match-winner Lukas Podolski, who scored one goal and made the other two, was a happy man afterwards: “We’ve come on well as a team in the last few games,“ the Cologne-bound striker observed.
Reaction to Bayern v Bayer Leverkusen:
Uli Hoeneß: “The team was pretty nervous in the first half, because they’re obviously slowly but surely feeling the pressure. But the goal early in the second half released the tension and we should have scored six or even eight goals. We ought to have won by two or three more in Cottbus and it was the same here – we could be top by now. Whatever, I don’t believe the title will be won on goal difference. One of the contenders will slip up.“
