The Bayern party set off for the summer training camp in Donaueschingen on Thursday afternoon without Milan-bound Lucio. With the Brazilian on his way to Italian champions Inter, 27 players took the flight to the Black Forest. Their number included Luca Toni, the final player to report back after an extended period of leave, young hopeful Diego Contento, and injured twosome Bastian Schweinsteiger and Franck Ribéry.

The France star has been the subject of vocal and persistent rumours regarding a potential transfer abroad in the last two weeks, but shortly before departing for the training camp, Bayern general manager Uli Hoeneß publicly moved to quash the speculation once and for all, repeating his previous statements that the player would not be leaving this summer.

“We’ve definitively agreed that Franck’s staying with us,” Hoeneß reported after consulting with coach Louis van Gaal, a conversation which examined the Ribery situation in detail. The club had also formally spoken to the player twice over the last two weeks, “and Bayern’s position was made very clear to him on both occasions.”
