Ribéry still sidelined

Players warm to Van Gaal’s perfectionism

After a day of rest on Sunday, the new week at Bayern began with good news: Franck Ribéry returned to the practice ground. The inflammation of the left knee which kept him out of the friendlies in Salzburg and Waging had subsided – or so it seemed. But just an hour into the morning session, the France star was on his way to the medical unit, pointing at the injured knee by way of explanation.

An initial examination and diagnosis indicated that the injury had flared up again. The 26-year-old will now receive treatment for as long as it takes to restore his fitness. No date has been set for his return to the squad programme.

Lell back with the squad

Christian Lell’s return to the training ground was a much smoother affair. The right-back has shaken off an inflammation of the right big toe and rejoined the squad on Monday morning. Lell and his team-mates completed a hard-working session, in which Louis van Gaal supervised one group of players in passing exercises, with two further groups playing six-against-six matches.
