Bayern have emerged from a four-and-a-half week pre-season on a roll, nicely in shape for Sunday's DFB Cup first round tie away to SpVgg Neckarelz (Live in English from 5.15 pm on FCB.tv Web Radio). After increasingly assured displays in their warm-up matches, the Bavarians are now keen "to send out a first signal," as Germany international Philipp Lahm put it.
"It's the first competitive match of the new season, but we've tended to make heavy weather of the first round of the cup in recent years," acknowledged Lahm, warning his team-mates to be alert against the sixth-tier side from Baden Württemberg, who have switched the tie to Hoffenheim's Rhein-Neckar-Arena home ground in Sinsheim. "We know what can happen in the cup, so we must take our opponents seriously."
