Reaction to HSV v FCB

‘A draw would have been the right result’

Bayern visited Hamburg on Saturday hoping to go second in the Bundesliga table, but slipped instead to sixth after losing 1-0 to the leaders. “It was a great game from both teams. If it had ended in a draw, both sides would have been happy,“ argued Uli Hoeneß. Head coach Louis van Gaal shared the FCB camp’s disappointment: “We played well, but we didn’t take our chances. That was the problem.“

Reaction to Hamburg v Bayern:

Uli Hoeneß: “HSV have scored a goal and won it, but I don’t believe they were better than us. A draw would have been a better reflection of the balance of play. It was a great game from both teams. If it had ended in a draw, both sides would have been happy. We played well, but failed to put away two or three golden opportunities.“

Louis van Gaal: “Whoever scored was always going to win it. It was a genuine big match. We had our chances but failed to score. We’re still in a development process. We played well, but we didn’t take our chances. That was the problem. Hamburg are a top team.“
