Thomas Müller put his teenage years behind him on Sunday, when the Bayern youth product celebrated his 20th birthday. His age now begins with the number two – and the player handed himself the best early birthday present imaginable the day before with two goals in Bayern's 5-1 Bundesliga win away to Dortmund. The double strike means an impressive opening to Müller’s top flight goalscoring account, but the player was in no mood to kick off his birthday celebrations immediately afterwards. Quite the opposite in fact: Müller went to bed early on Saturday evening, “because I was tired. With our match schedule, there's not much time for a party.”
On Monday, the youngster sets out on his first Champions League away trip. For now, the gala display in Dortmund rates as the high point of his still short career to date. “I never imagined so much would happen so quickly,” commented Müller, a member of the reserve squad last season who has appeared in every first-team match so far this term.
