Bayern’s second league win of the new campaign was laden with the promise of good things to come. Saturday’s 5-1 scoreline was Munich’s biggest-ever margin of victory away to Borussia Dortmund, but all that glitters is not necessarily gold, as the key personalities at the club were quick to point out afterwards. “We didn’t touch the ball in the first 15 minutes,” coach Louis van Gaal admonished.
Reaction to Dortmund v Bayern:
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: “The match straight after having practically the whole team away on international duty in midweek is always a difficult one. You can never be sure how the players are going to cope physically. In the circumstances, the team played really well and with unbelievable energy in the second half. We’re extremely satisfied.“
Louis van Gaal: “We made a very poor start. We didn’t touch the ball in the first 15 minutes. After half-time, the individual quality in my team made the difference. After such a difficult week, I’m delighted we scored some decent goals."
