Bayern are through to the third round of the DFB German Cup after a supremely comfortable 5-0 home win over Rot-Weiss Oberhausen. The 14-time cup winners fielded eight new faces and needed the first 20 minutes to settle, but FCB soon gained in assurance and deserved the thumping margin of victory by the end, fully vindicating coach Louis van Gaal’s decision to hand match practice to a number of his squad players. The Bayern boss was predictably satisfied afterwards, praising his men for their composure and professionalism. “I saw a lot of highly-motivated players, and a lot of players playing well tactically,” the Dutch supremo enthused.
Reaction to Bayern v Rot-Weiss Oberhausen
Louis van Gaal: “I’m very satisfied. The second half was a little better than the first. We passed the ball a lot better. Straight after the Nürnberg match, I said it was always difficult against a well-organised defence, but we solved the problem much better today. I’m very pleased with the result, and the way it was achieved. And I’m pleased with the players who’ve come in from the squad. I saw a lot of highly-motivated players, and a lot of players playing well tactically.”
