Bayern go into Saturday’s Bundesliga trip to Freiburg (Live in English from 3.15 pm on FCB.tv Web Radio) eight points off the league leaders and without a goal of their own in three competitive matches. Patently, the time has come for action. “We need results. Results are the most important thing in football,” advised Louis van Gaal. Bastian Schweinsteiger agreed: “We need the three points, whatever it takes.”
Despite the situation in the standings, the Bayern camp is anything but apprehensive about visiting the promoted club. “You could almost say it’s helpful we’re in a pressure situation. It could well help us focus, and we might be more effective with our chances,” mused Schweinsteiger, who in common with twelve of his team-mates has spent the best part of the last two weeks away from Munich on international duty.
However, the internationals have swiftly returned their focus to the bread-and-butter of the league. “You sense the coaching staff and the players badly want the three points,” reported Schweinsteiger. “We all know what’s at stake,” said Jörg Butt, “I’m utterly convinced we’ll start scoring again in Freiburg. We’re not going to go four games without a goal.”
