There’s an all-too-familiar feel to life at the Säbener Strasse right now. Whenever it comes to a break in the Bundesliga programme and the club’s top stars head off to represent their national teams, the coaching staff are left with only a handful of the senior squad at daily training. With two rounds of internationals on the calendar in the next eight days, that is exactly the current situation at the club.
A total of just six outfield players, including Luca Toni and Hamit Altintop, and all three goalkeepers gathered at the club’s practice ground for training on Tuesday morning. On the sidelines, Ivica Olic worked away at his comeback from injury, supervised by sports rehab specialist Darcy Norman. The Croatia international is hopeful of resuming the team schedule soon, perhaps as early as next week.
