All runs come to an end at some point – thankfully so, in the case of negative ones. Miroslav Klose buried two unwanted jinxes on Friday. He had never previously scored against Hoffenheim, but netted with four minutes left to seal his side’s 2-0 win. It was also his first goal in the Bundesliga this term. Klose had previously only hit the target in the cup with a brace in Frankfurt. His last league goal came back in March 2009 against Hannover.
“Obviously, I’m delighted I’ve scored my first this season,” Klose said afterwards. He grabbed a brace last Tuesday in the warm-up friendly away to Basel. The Germany stalwart, who has now scored against every single one of the teams currently in the German top flight, is hoping to keep it up over the coming weeks. “I’ve set myself some ambitious targets in 2010, and you have to say it’s started well.”
Klose has had to content himself with a super-sub role recently. He was again a replacement against Hoffenheim, but came off the bench on the hour and scored his maiden Bundesliga goal as a sub for FCB. His last start came back on 22 November against Leverkusen. After that, Ivica Olic and Mario Gomez struck up a fruitful partnership which produced a welter of goals and six wins on the spin in the run-up to the mid-season break.
