Bayern have finally returned to the top of the Bundesliga after beating Hoffenheim, but the manner of victory pleased the FCB camp just as much as the result. The other title candidates will know what they are up against now, Louis van Gaal feels. “This evening, I think we showed we have a good team. I was hoping we’d spread a little anxiety among our rivals and we’ve done it,” the coach declared.
Reaction to Bayern v Hoffenheim:
Louis van Gaal: “We didn’t play well in the first half. It was much better in the second half and we made some great chances. It’s a shame we didn’t score more often, but 2-0 is good too. We didn’t close down the space well in the first half and too many passes went astray, but we improved in the second half. This evening, I think we showed we have a good team. I was hoping we’d spread a little anxiety among our rivals and we’ve done it.“
Bastian Schweinsteiger: “It was good in terms of the result. We could maybe have scored another, but it was difficult because Hoffenheim are a good team. They put you under pressure and they have some quick players. You have to get to grips with that in the first instance. We know we can play better football, but it was still good from us tonight. We scored the opener at the right time and we’ve kept a clean sheet. That was great, and it’s also good that we’re top of the league overnight.“
