Cup favourites Bayern ‘must avoid complacency’

After a perfect start to the second half of the campaign, it’s two games a week for Bayern now, with three home fixtures in the next eight days, in three different competitions. On Wednesday evening (Live in English from 6.45 pm on Web Radio), Greuther Fürth visit the Allianz Arena in the DFB Cup quarter-finals, with Louis van Gaal urgently warning his men not to underestimate the threat posed by the second division visitors: “Even an amateur team has it in them to create chances against Bayern Munich. If they score in the first minute, it’ll be hard for us. And Greuther Fürth are no amateurs.”

Accompanied by a critical analysis of the weekend win in Wolfsburg, and with his usual meticulous pre-match preparations, the boss has been making clear to his men the vital need to avoid complacency against the team lying eighth in the second division. “Fürth have their qualities,” admonished Van Gaal. VfB Stuttgart found out all about that in the last round, when the Franconia outfit beat the top flight side 1-0.
