Louis van Gaal will have been a relieved man when he opened the door to the first-team dressing room at the Säbener Strasse on Friday morning, as the room below the Performance Centre was nice and full. The men who were unable to play in midweek with gastro-enteritis, including Ivica Olic and Danijel Pranjic, had returned. The squad had been split into two groups the day before to minimise the risk of infection.
Nicely in time for what chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says will be “the most intense phase of the season”, with home matches against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday evening (Live in English from 6.15 pm on FCB.tv Web Radio) and four days later in the Champions League Round of 16 first leg against Fiorentina, Van Gaal’s selection worries have eased. The only definite absentee at the weekend is Miroslav Klose (ankle), “but he’s likely to be fit in time for Fiorentina,” the boss reported.
