There was drama at the Allianz Arena on Saturday, as Bayern trailed Freiburg with a quarter of an hour to go, but Arjen Robben struck twice to return FCB to the top of the table. “Looking at the first 45 minutes, we lacked a number of the attributes which normally assure us of victory,” analysed director of sport Christian Nerlinger. “But we reorganised and dominated after the break,” said Louis van Gaal.
Reaction to Bayern v Freiburg
Christian Nerlinger: "Looking at the first 45 minutes, we lacked a number of the attributes which normally assure us of victory. If that happens, you’ll struggle even against a side facing relegation like Freiburg. Fortunately, we improved after half-time. We’ve sent Daniel van Buyten up front before now, and it’s succeeded in the past too. I think it also prompted the team to attack more aggressively and create more chances – and fortunately we’ve gone on to win."
Louis van Gaal: “Freiburg were very well organised. It was tough for us in the first half, but we made it worse by straying from our positions. We reorganised and dominated after the break. It’s very nice to end up winning, but we could easily have lost or drawn today. We’ve scored from two set pieces, which speaks for our quality, but also that we were a shade lucky.“
