Reaction to Frankfurt v Bayern

Van Bommel: Not the end of the world

Deep disappointment infused the Bayern camp after the 2-1 defeat away to Eintracht Frankfurt. Munich’s first defeat in 19 Bundesliga fixtures means FCB have potentially opened the door to rivals Schalke and Bayer Leverkusen. “Obviously, it’s a setback when you drop all three points five minutes from the end,” reflected Bastian Schweinsteiger: “We need to start picking up points away from home as soon as we can.”

Reaction to Frankfurt v Bayern:

Christian Nerlinger: “All in all, we gave Frankfurt far too much space, they created a few dangerous chances, so it was always knife-edge stuff. Obviously, you’re always hoping you’re going to hang on and get a result so close to the end, but there are never any one hundred percent guarantees. The important thing now is to move on, look ahead and pick the team up. We face our direct rivals in the next few weeks, and that’s what we have to work towards, ensuring the team shows better form than that.“

Louis van Gaal: “I think we’re to blame for throwing it away. Maybe we had to make one substitution too many, we’ve lost another centre-half in Van Buyten, so it’s getting more and more difficult.“
