After the prestige and glory of reaching the Champions League final in midweek, Bayern now return to the bread-and-butter of the Bundesliga. VfL Bochum visit the Allianz Arena for the final home fixture of the season on Saturday (Live in English from 3.15 pm CET on FCB.tv Web Radio). FCB travel to the capital to face Hertha Berlin in the last match of the season next weekend.
“The team are riding a wave of euphoria, and that’ll be a boost for the Bundesliga run-in,” said director of sport Christian Nerlinger. Victory over relegation-threatened Bochum could put Bayern firmly on course for a 22nd German championship, especially if sole remaining rivals Schalke fail to beat third-placed Werder Bremen.
The Munich camp is totally focused on their own task against the side lying 16th in the table. “We need to banish any thoughts of Inter and the Champions League, and concentrate completely on VfL Bochum. That’s the next game we have any influence over,” intoned Bastian Schweinsteiger, looking forward to “one of the most important matches of the season. If we win, we’ll be very close to the title.”
