Bayern failed to pull decisively clear at the top of the table after drawing 1-1 away to third-placed Leverkusen, but after a punishing schedule of seven matches in the last three weeks, the FCB camp was by and large happy with a point from the closely-fought encounter. “We came here looking for all three points, but at the end of the day, the draw is OK,” summed up Bastian Schweinsteiger.
Reaction to Bayer Leverkusen v Bayern
Louis van Gaal: “I think I can be satisfied with the draw. We probably should have had a penalty at the end, but Leverkusen had plenty of chances too, more than we did. It’s a bit disappointing we surrendered the lead so quickly instead of nicking a 1-0 win. But we’ve had seven games in three weeks, and we’re two points and six points ahead [of Schalke and Leverkusen respectively], so I’m happy.”
Franz Beckenbauer: “Bayern gave possession away far too cheaply – that’s a sign of flagging concentration and energy. But you’ve got to take your hat off to what the players have achieved over the last few weeks. Sarpei pulled Müller back and it was definitely a penalty, but overall, it’s the right result.”
