Bayern men dominate 2009-10 players’ awards

Bayern stars and personalities have emerged triumphant from the annual German Professional Footballers' Association (VDV) awards poll. The top accolade as Player of the Season 2009-10 went to Arjen Robben with an imposing 72.7 percent of his fellow professionals’ votes. Robben’s FCB team-mate Bastian Schweinsteiger came second with 6.2 percent, followed by Wolfsburg’s Edin Dzeko (4.9 percent).

In the Best Newcomer category for last season, Thomas Müller of Bayern scored a resounding victory with 73.1 percent of the votes, ahead of Borussia Mönchengladbach starlet Marco Reus (10.5 percent) and FCB defender Holger Badstuber (3.6 percent).

In the Coach of the Season category, Louis van Gaal registered a narrow success with 38.8 percent in the poll, just ahead of Schalke supremo Felix Magath on 38.3 percent. Jürgen Klopp of Borussia Dortmund came third on 8.6 percent.

The ‘VDV 11’ all-star team for the season comprised:

Goalkeeper: Manuel Neuer (Schalke 04)
Defenders: Philipp Lahm (Bayern), Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund), Sami Hyypiä (Bayer Leverkusen), Dennis Aogo (Hamburger SV)
Midfield: Robben, Schweinsteiger, Thomas Müller, Toni Kroos (Bayer Leverkusen)
Forwards: Dzeko and Stefan Kießling (Leverkusen).

All players belonging to clubs in the Bundesliga, Bundesliga 2, the Third Division and the fourth-tier Regional Leagues are eligible to vote in the poll, together with officers and other members of the association.
