The official order for the day on Monday was relaxation. Following a regeneration session on Sunday lunchtime, Louis van Gaal released his men until the next scheduled workout on Tuesday evening. The only players at the Säbener Strasse on Monday were Franck Ribéry and Martin Demichelis. The two World Cup participants had only started pre-season training a day earlier.
Their team-mates certainly deserved the day and a half off. Ivica Olic and Co had spent the previous six days working hard and breaking sweat at the summer training camp by the shores of Lake Garda. The Bayern stars completed eight gruelling training sessions in temperatures mostly above 35 degrees at the municipal stadium in Arco, and rounded off the camp with a friendly against a Trentino regional XI on Saturday. “All the players did very well,” commented director of sport Christian Nerlinger.
