Bayern made an early start to phase two of the pre-season preparations on Thursday. The squad arrived at the training ground five minutes before the official start time to hear a few words of wisdom from Louis van Gaal. And then they got stuck in. It didn’t take long for the Bayern players to work up a sweat.
After the warm-up routine, Van Gaal had his players doing 50 yard sprints before moving on to a series of passing drills. At the same time, the keepers worked with goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek. The reserves had a similar session in parallel to the first team squad.
Lots of gaps
The first and reserve team squads will continue to train together for the next few days. There are still large gaps in Van Gaal’s squad even after the 10-day break between the two pre-season phases. All thirteen players who appeared at the World Cup finals are still on holiday, and the first of this group will return to training after the week-long training camp in Trentino, which starts on Monday.
