The Bayern camp ought to have been upbeat after a 4-0 victory over Germania Windeck and a place in the DFB Cup second round, but the double winners were less than satisfied with a lacklustre display. “We lacked determination, and we gave away possession much too cheaply,” complained Miroslav Klose. “It was our worst performance of pre-season, but we’ve won 4-0. We did what had to be done,” Louis van Gaal reasoned.
Reaction to Windeck v Bayern
Louis van Gaal: “Windeck were extremely disciplined for the full 90 minutes. It's always hard to keep your concentration high against a smaller club, but it's still our worst performance of pre-season. All credit to our opponents, who played very well for 90 minutes. But we’ve won 4-0. We did what had to be done. And I think it’s been a good match for Germania Windeck too.”
Miroslav Klose: “Winning was what mattered. But we were very poor today. Our passing game never got going, we were lacking in our determination and willingness to run, and we gave away possession much too cheaply. And on a bad day, Windeck would have gone a goal up. It was laboured.”
