Buoyant Bayern keen to end Köln hoodoo

It's Oktoberfest time in Munich, but Bayern are focused on Cologne, venue for another world-renowned street festival, the pre-Lent Karneval. Just three and a half hours after the cry of “O’zapft is!” heralds the tapping of the first barrel in the Bavarian capital on Saturday, FCB take on FC Köln at the Allianz Arena (Live in English from 3.15 pm on Web Radio), “and I want to win every game during the Oktoberfest,” Bastian Schweinsteiger declared.

“We have to win,” echoed Louis van Gaal, for although Munich beat Roma 2-0 in midweek - “It was a massive result. I’m satisfied so far. We have two points more than we did last season,” the coach summarised – the champions have neither won nor scored in their last two Bundesliga outings. Van Gaal knows his team are still dealing with the after-effects of the World Cup and the short pre-season, “and it’ll take another six weeks. We simply have to get through this difficult period.”
