Reaction to Bayern v Köln

Van Gaal: Our final passes went astray

Bayern were held to a second home goalless draw in a row on Saturday as FC Köln parked the proverbial bus at the Allianz Arena. The champions dominated for practically the full 90 minutes but again failed to make the most of their chances. “We did everything we could to get into dangerous positions in the box, but that’s not enough. We’ve also got to score,” a disappointed Louis van Gaal observed afterwards.

Reaction to Bayern v Köln:

Louis van Gaal: “We didn’t take our chances again, and this time, the final pass wasn’t always accurate enough. We did everything we could to get into dangerous positions in the box, but that’s not enough. We’ve also got to score. Köln strung ten men across their box, so the final pass has to be a good one, although that’s obviously hard when they’ve pulled so many men back.”

Zvonimir Soldo (FC Köln coach): “Bayern dominated the match, which is what we expected. But my team battled away, and we even made a couple of decent chances shortly before the end. After that, we rode our luck through to the final whistle, but at the end of the day, we deserve the point.”
