Reaction to Bayern v Bremen

Van Gaal: We’ve not put away our chances

The big game between Bayern and Werder Bremen ended goalless, after neither side managed to convert even one of a string of good chances at both ends. “We obviously have to improve in every area in our forthcoming games, especially in terms of taking our chances," stated keeper Jörg Butt. Louis van Gaal also rued the missed openings: “I was happy with our second-half display, but we’ve got to be scoring goals."

Reaction to Bayern v Bremen:

Louis van Gaal: “We’ve not put away our chances, but that was exactly what we had to do today. Unfortunately, not all our players are fully fit, which is why we gave away possession so often. I was happy with our second-half display, but we’ve got to be scoring goals.”

Mark van Bommel: “Overall it wasn’t as good as we wanted it to be. It's a funny start to this season. The teams dropping points aren’t the ones you’d expect.”

Jörg Butt: “In the first half, we were careless, we made too many mistakes, and we gave the ball away cheaply. We let Bremen have far too many chances. We created more chances of our own in the second half, but we’re just lacking the determination to make our chances count. We obviously have to improve in every area in our forthcoming games, especially in terms of taking our chances.”

Thomas Schaaf (Werder coach): “We played well today. We never stopped trying to get forward and we had chances, just as Bayern did. Both teams failed to take the lead, but both teams could easily have done so. It's the right result.”

Marko Arnautovic (Werder): “We can be satisfied with a point, but we should have taken one of our chances.”

Marko Marin (Werder): “We passed very well today and we always tried to attack. Bayern may not be used to that when they’re at home.”
