Reaction to HSV v FCB

Van Gaal: A game we could have won

Friday’s tough away trip to title contenders Hamburg ended in a goalless stalemate, but despite a battling display from his men, Louis van Gaal was not entirely satisfied. “I went to the dressing room and told my players it’s a shame we didn’t win. I have the feeling we could have come away with a lot more than that,“ the FCB head coach declared. Toni Kroos went a step further: “We should have won tonight.”

Reaction to Hamburg v Bayern:

Van Gaal: “I went to the dressing room and told my players it’s a shame we didn’t win. I have the feeling we could have come away with a lot more than that. Hamburg were physically shattered in the last 15 minutes, which is basically when we should have been scoring the single goal we needed. We failed, and we could even have lost it as well. My lads are giving everything they’ve got in the effort to win, as we saw again today. I’m very pleased with our passionate approach. But I’m unhappy about us not scoring the one goal. We had the chance, because Hamburg were exhausted.“

Philipp Lahm: “Obviously, we wanted to come away with the three points, but HSV had a huge chance to win it at the end, so we have to be satisfied with a point. After all, HSV aren’t just any old team. Overall it was a reasonable performance, but we need more determination and precision in the final third.“
