Practice match versus Unterhaching

75 minutes for Ribéry, 90 for Breno and Contento

Bayern ultimately won the training game 2-1, but the key stats from a hastily arranged friendly against third division Unterhaching on Wednesday lunchtime were 75 and 90. Franck Ribéry played 75 minutes of the practice match, Breno and Diego Contento 90 minutes apiece. “The goal was for our injured players to gain match practice and rediscover their rhythm. We’ve done just that,” commented Louis van Gaal.

Following his first start in any kind of match since rupturing ligaments and the capsule in his right ankle eight weeks ago, Ribéry also issued a positive summary afterwards. “I feel good, and it was great to play again,” the France star informed after completing his stint. He showed plenty of promising form against Munich suburban outfit Haching, with mazy dribbling, an assist and a ‘goal’, which was then chalked off for offside.

“The most important thing was playing for 75 minutes, and recovering my rhythm,” continued Ribéry, who feels he is making good progress towards 100 percent fitness: “I’m training well, and all I need now is more time in matches. The closer I come to recovering my rhythm, the better I’ll perform in matches.”
