The Bundesliga makes unhappy reading for Bayern and their fans at present. A third of the way into the season, the champions are ninth – and following Borussia Dortmund’s 2-0 win over Hamburg on Friday, FCB are 15 points off the leaders. Even Bavarian neighbours Nürnberg are doing better, as they are two points ahead of Munich in seventh. FCB’s immediate task is to change that situation as fast as possible.
“It is absolutely necessary for us to start a winning run over the next few weeks, as we need to make up important points. And we intend to make a start against Nürnberg," urged chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge ahead of the 181st all-Bavaria derby against FC Nürnberg: “A glance at the table means nothing other than a win will do.”
